2 Kind Of Foundation Repairs

Posted on: 14 February 2023

Your house depends on a firm foundation to stay standing. However, the foundation can start to fail, wreaking havoc on your home. If your foundation starts to fail, you can have doors that won't stay open and windows that you can't open. Eventually, you will have to do something about your foundation. The longer you wait, the more damage will happen and the more expensive the repairs will be. When you call a contractor to evaluate your foundation to see what repairs need, they will look at your foundation and tell you what they think should be done for it.

Sealants and Patches

If you have just started to notice the problem or you are just seeing small cracks, using sealants or masonry patches may be the best solution for your foundation. Sometimes sealing off cracks and damage will prevent more damage and alleviate the problem. Even if patching or sealing the cracks doesn't completely cure the problem with your foundation, it may give you some breathing space and enough time to figure out precisely what you need to do for it. Some sealants and patches are things you can apply yourself, but it is always going to be better to have a contractor do the work because they can choose the suitable material for the situation and can let you know how long it will last.

Slab Jacking

Slab jacking is also called mud jacking. This process is used when your foundation has settled and is no longer level. Jacking your foundation will make your house level again. During this process, a contractor will drill a series of holes into your concrete slab. The holes will be in specific places for the best results. Then the contractor will start pumping material under the slab to lift it. The material is often called mud, even though it technically isn't mud. It is more of a slurry or a mix of several different things. When the material hardens and cures, your foundation will be level again.

Problems with your foundation can cause your house to be irreparably damaged. You can contact a contractor who specializes in foundation work so that they can come and check out your foundation. The contractor can let you know what they think should be done to your foundation and give you a list of solutions.

Results Are Better Than New

When something breaks or is beginning to look a little worn, what do you do with that item? You might throw it away and buy a replacement, but in many cases, a better approach would be to have that item resorted. People can restore or repair almost everything, from clothing to furniture. You just have to know the right shop to visit or the right repair person to hire for the job. This blog is a good place to learn a bit more about that. We think you'll enjoy the experience of learning about repairs and replacement, too. After all, it's a broad topic!
